The NJPPA was established to provide wholesale energy management services for its municipalities that own and operate distribution electric utilities as departments of local government and New Jersey’s only rural electric cooperative.  The Boroughs of Butler, Lavallette, Madison, Milltown, Park Ridge, Pemberton, Seaside Heights, South River, and the City of Vineland are NJPPA members and are the only municipalities eligible for membership.  Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative is otherwise under contract for wholesale energy management services, but may become an NJPPA member in the future.

The NJPPA is responsible for procurement of wholesale power and energy supply as well as various other products and services available in today’s electricity markets.  Procurement may be accomplished through contracts with suppliers or investment in generation projects – including renewables.

The goal is to ensure that NJPPA members meet their long-term obligation to provide reliable electric service to their customers at the lowest reasonable cost.
