       The Borough has continuously operated an electric utility since the early 1900's. All electrical energy is purchased with the current supplier being Allegheny Electric. Contracts for purchased power typically ranges from 3 to 5 years. The Borough also has an agreement with the Power Authority of the State of New York whereby it purchases power generated at Niagara Falls and on the St. Lawrence River. 
       
       The Butler Electric Company today is a 22 million dollar operation, serving approximately 12,000 customers in Kinnelon, Bloomingdale, Butler and small portions of West Milford and Riverdale.
